Go South Young Man, Go South…

Hello from the most southern point of the good ol’ US of A. That’s right, we are in Key West doing a nice bit of diving… Man, it feels great getting back in the deep water. We took two dives in Key West’s beautiful 86 degree waters. We dove Cannonball’s Cut and The Haystacks. Key West has the third largest barrier reef in the world. These reef formations are “spur and groove, or finger” reefs, because they look like the fingers on an open hand.

We saw a 5 foot nurse shark, some eels, and other beautiful fish. One small issue is that the visibility was only 15-20 feet. Which is not especially good, but a bad day diving is still better than a good day at work.

Rena and I spent the following day sleeping and on the beach. It was great. We also discovered some awesome Cuban food here. We had deep fried whole fish, and some great Cuban bread. There is a local deli here that serves a sandwich called a Cuban Mix. They take some specially prepared Cuban ham, pork; add spices, lettuce, tomato, pickles and Swiss cheese. Unreal. We loved it.

We are laying in bed, looking at the ocean… Wow, what a beautiful site. Key West is a bit run down, but a beach and the sun make it feel like Hawaii. It is great to take a rest. We’ll catch up with you all when we wake up…
